about

With this first album, Bastien Weeger and Julien Stella have breath to spare! They have no choice but to reinvent themselves relentlessly, deploying the energy it takes to keep the sound going while exploring the rhythmic, harmonic and timbral possibilities. They set off as free as the air and set out on a journey on the back of clarinets and saxophones.

Listening to "Kahmsïn" an intimate reverie immediately sets in. We feel the warmth of a complicity that unites these two, we are at the heart of their exchanges and the dialogue that each of them nourishes in its own way.

If Julien Stella and Bastien Weeger have known each other for more than a decade, they have very singular artistic backgrounds and universes. It is in Tours they observe each other for the first time. The baptism of fire will come later, wait and see. Yet, in 2011, who would have imagined them on the same train? How did Bastien Weeger, winner of the Concours National de Jazz de la Défense, and Julien Stella, winner of the French Beatbox Championship, plan such an adventure? By playing together in the band Groove Catchers for several years they finally need to dig into acoustic sound and to blow until finding the blueprint.
"Kahmsïn" is certainly a turning point for NoSax NoClar. The video shot in the Notre Dame de Bon Port church (Nantes) in 2018 officializes and propels the duo. The setting is majestic, the music is serious, inspired. The first concerts seduced festivals and audiences alike. The search for a composite and singular sound imposes itself as the aesthetic signature of the duo. We recognize NoSax NoClar but we can't say exactly where this sound comes from, nor in which direction it will go tomorrow.
